Questions? I've got answers.

Starting therapy brings up a lot of questions. Here are the ones I hear most often. If yours isn't here, reach out and ask.

Getting Started

Book a free 15-minute consultation through the online portal. We'll talk about what's going on, what you're looking for, and whether we're a good fit. If we are, we'll schedule your first full session from there.

No. You do not need a referral from a doctor or anyone else to start therapy. You can book directly through the client portal.

If you're asking the question, it probably is. Therapy is for anyone who wants support working through something, whether that's anxiety, a life transition, relationship stress, or just feeling stuck. You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy.

I work with clients ages 16 and older. This includes older teens, college students, and adults of all ages.

Insurance & Payment

I am in-network with BCBS/Anthem PPO and Dean Health Plan PPO. For all other insurance plans, I can provide a superbill that you submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

Individual therapy sessions are $185 per 50-minute session. Group therapy is $50 per session. The initial 15-minute consultation is always free. Sliding scale options are available upon consultation.

A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes diagnostic codes and session information. You submit it to your insurance company, and they may reimburse you for a portion of the session cost based on your out-of-network benefits. Many PPO plans reimburse 50-80% of session costs.

Yes. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. If cost is a barrier, please bring it up during your consultation and we'll work together to find a solution. I'd rather figure something out than have cost keep you from getting the help you need.

What to Expect

Your first session is an intake where we go deeper into your history, what's bringing you to therapy, and what your goals are. It's also a chance for you to ask me anything and see if this feels like the right space for you. There's no pressure to share everything at once.

Most clients start with weekly sessions. As things improve, we often move to biweekly or monthly. We'll figure out the right cadence together based on what you need.

I draw from several evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), strengths-based therapy, and solution-focused therapy. The approach I use depends on what you're working through and what resonates with you.

That's exactly what the free consultation is for. Fit matters more than anything in therapy. If after our call or even after a few sessions you feel like it's not the right match, I will help you find someone who is. No hard feelings.

Telehealth

Telehealth sessions happen over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform through the client portal. You just need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera. Everything else works the same as an in-person session.

I am licensed to provide telehealth in Wisconsin, South Carolina, Washington, and Delaware. You must be physically located in one of these states during our session.

Research consistently shows that telehealth therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, and stress management. Many of my clients actually prefer it because of the convenience and comfort of being in their own space.

Policies

I require 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee. Life happens, and I understand that, but the notice helps me offer that time slot to someone else who needs it.

Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential and protected by law. There are a few legally required exceptions: if there is an imminent risk of harm to yourself or someone else, if there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or if records are subpoenaed by a court. I will go over all of this in detail during your first session.
